The people of Ukraine have finally brought
down the statue of Lenin after so many years of fighting and striving to end
the reign of this ruler even after his death. For years on end the people have fought
with one another, some trying to protect the statue and others refusing to let
it stand. “Statues of Lenin, once abundant in Ukraine and a reminder of its past as
part of the Soviet Union, have been a common target ever since the start of the
revolution that ousted the nation's Russian-leaning leader earlier this year.”
(1) With the
fall of the largest statue of Vladimir Lenin the people’s actions of Eastern Ukraine
took over social media on Sunday. Although many of the Ukrainian people were
fighting and battling to take down this massive statue some were fighting with
the hopes of keeping the statue of the once great leader standing. Creating a
blockade pro- Russian people tried to their full potential to keep Vladimir
Lenin standing tall and proud. Protestors who were trying to topple down Lenin’s
statue are being threatened with going to jail, but at this point and stage of their
rebellion, statements and threats like those neither interest nor frighten
them, they are ready to fight and take down any forces who are willing to try
to overcome them.

will help spark the will to fight in many others and will inform the people around
the world of what is taking place across the globe.
Talar, your blog was a fascinating one! Getting to hear about world news and what is occurring in other countries makes you think for a moment about how important some things are to a group of people. For some the statue of Lenin was a disappointment, but for others it meant everything. You pointed out both sides in your blog and made it clear on what occurred in Ukraine. Awesome work, keep it up!
ReplyDeleteThis was such an attention-grabbing blog Talar! I agree with you a hundred percent about how the general public should read this article because they should know what is going on in other countries, especially in Ukraine. A part of me is relieved that the statue was brought down because in a way it shows that the people of Ukraine are standing up for themselves. I do not know if you realized this but the people of Ukraine somehow remind me of the Armenian people of the past. After being pushed around our people realized that by uniting they could fight back and this is similar to the people of Ukraine because by destroying the statue they are showing the world that they will no longer tremble in fear, but instead fight for their freedom.
ReplyDeleteAwesome choice of an article Talar! It is true that the people should be aware of what is going on in the world. Ukraine is not having the year they thought they would have, but you showed that they are not giving up and are showing that they should not be underestimated. That is what is important.
ReplyDeleteWow Talar, wonderful job! Your blog was an excellent summary of the article. It was descriptive, informative, and definitely not biased. It showed both sides and the emotions of both. I love how something as simple as a statue could mean nothing to some, while it is everything to others. Again, excellent job.
