FEED THE SOUL

WATCH: 7-year-old Violin Prodigy Leah Flynn Hopes
To Bring Peace To Ferguson Through Music
By: Lilly Workneh
Source: The Huffington Post

All of America has been stirred up by the recent events in Ferguson, Missouri, but one little girl refuses to let those in pain continue to suffer without hearing the sweet melody of music and hope. Seven year old Leah Flynn, from Sanford is musically gifted and hopes to use her gift as a monition to bring joy and hope back into the lives of those who have only seen terror in Ferguson during these past months. This little girl is YouTube famous for her skill of playing the violin, and now she is famous for playing “The Prayer”, “Amazing Grace” and “Let There Be Peace on Earth” on St. Louis’ Fox 2 News. Leah was declined by Governor Jay Nixon of Missouri and Police Chief Thomas Jackson, she had originally planned to perform in Ferguson, Missouri directly to the people living in the misery themselves. However, clearly she found a way to touch the hearts of the residents of Ferguson and all of America.
It is young and kind hearts like Leah Flynn that help Americans hold onto hope and love. Because of this little girl people in Ferguson are reminded that we hold them dear to our hearts and all protesters and recognized and these injustices are not going unseen. It is important for people to read about this young American girl because she represents all that is still good in America. There is a bigger picture to be seen and understood in this article and in this act. This shows all people that we must contribute to those who are trying to overcome a rough time in any way possible.

10 Countries With The Most Slaves
By:  Alexander E.M. Hess & Thomas C. Frohlich
Source: The Huffington Post

India, china, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Russia, Nigeria, Democratic Republic of Congo, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Thailand. One might wonder why these counties are listed above, no it is not to express the countries with the highest population rates, it is to show the counties who still have slaves working on their lands.
Slavery supposedly came to an end many years ago, however all of these counties listed above populate their land with enslaved people. It was clear that many people have to work in poor conditions but it is now obvious that millions are being forced into slavery. According to statistics counties with an instable or corrupt government are vulnerable to becoming a home to slaves. Population is also a very large factor i8n which countries will become slave keeping countries, however the United States is the third most populated country in the world and it is has incredibly low rates of slavery. As mentioned above the stability and validity of a country is a defining factor in whether a country will become a country vulnerable to enslaving people.
It is unbelievably important for people to read articles like the one above, because the world must be aware of the inhumanities that still take place around the world. Slavery is not a resolved issue it is taking over lives of innocent people. It is the world’s people’s job to rid the world of this ghastly matter. Writing about issues like this are not enough something must be done to end slavery for good.

One Dead the Other a Wasted Soul

Deputy Who Killed 19-Year-Old Samantha Ramsey Won't Be Indicted
Source: The Huffington Post

Remember how the deputies and the cops in the towns used to be praised and put on the highest pedestals for protecting the townspeople and risking their lives? Now those same deputies are taking lives. In Kentucky in the small area of Boone County a deputy named Tyler Brockman jumped onto top of nineteen year old Samantha Ramsey’s car roof and fired four shots killing her. Deputy Brockman said that he fired because he needed to defend himself after the nineteen year old tired to run him over after he wanted to pull her over for an alcohol level test. Samantha was leaving a party when the deputy tried pulling her over, but she refused and continued to drive. Samantha was also at fault for trying to drive away and after the autopsy was done it was clear that she had an alcohol level of 0.12 which is illegal for anyone under the age of twenty-one. Later it was proven that she had tried to run over the deputy because there were tire marks on deputy Brockman’s shoes. Even though Brockman was only protecting himself he was faced with any charges for killing Samantha, his case was investigated by his own department, which clearly means there must have been some bias towards Brockman. Samantha’s mother, family, and friends are infuriated by the fact that he was not charged with any jail time and that his own department carried out the investigation.
Regardless of the outcome, there is a nineteen year old lying six feet under, and a man of the law lying in bed living his whole life knowing he put her there. No matter whose side one finds themselves, neither of them have won, one is dead and the other walks around wishing to be dead. It is important for the youth especially to read this article because if Samantha had not drank that night deputy Brockman would not have suspected her and she would not have tried to flee the scene and he would not have shot and killed her. Obviously this single article will not stop teens from drinking, but it will make many young people think of what can happen and of the consequences.

perfection

Thirty minutes. No music, no phone, no computer, no sound, no chaos, just me. Thirty minutes and I saw a whole world; I actually paid attention the birds and the water in the pool and the stillness of the mountains. All I kept repeating in my head was, everything is perfect, and everything looks like a perfectly drawn picture. All the details were right there in front of me, every line was perfect and drawn to the edge. The colors were blended flawlessly the sky faded from a light orange to a pink to an everlasting baby blue. The birds were in peace, they jumped from one tree to another and landed gently on the grass picking whatever they thought would satisfy their hunger. The wind blew into my face making my nose feel like it was touched by a cold and yet gentle hand, everything was at peace with one another. There was no noise, no alarming sound or exasperating demands. Suddenly I was calm and I felt careless. However I was not careless in the sense that I am every day, saying I care about nothing, I was careless in the sense that for those thirty minutes I did not have a care in the world for those thirty short minutes I was free.
Yes, I saw and I wondered and I let go but I have always known there is a different sort of calm that takes over when you are alone outside. When all the technology is taken away and the demands are lost echoes everything is better, all things are prettier and colors become vibrant. I would love to be someone who would devote and hour each day to rest and sit alone in the outdoors but I can never become one who is like that. Nature works in unison and that is why we keep hearing the phrase let nature take its course, because if we were to let go everything would be perfect just like the simple outdoors.

DON'T BELIEVE THE VICTIM. BELIEVE THE HUMAN.

#BeenRapedNeverReported Trending On Twitter As Women Share Stories Of Sexual Violence
By: Ed Mazza
Source: Huffington Post
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/31/beenrapedneverreported_n_6080054.html?ir=Women

Rape is a word that has so much power, strength and weakness behind it. It is hard to believe that people can be inhumane to the point where they allow them selves to overpower, violate, hurt, abuse and RAPE. It is even harder to believe that the women who have been raped can convince themselves that it was their fault and they are to blame for the rapest’s savage behavior and actions.
On Thursday night a new hashtag began to trend on Twitter,                         #Been RapedNeverReported, this hashtag began from the tweets sent out by a writer named Antonia Zerbisias. This tweet was originally sent out to support actress Lucy DeCourtere, however it was a tweet dedicated to all rape victims who have found themselves in the traitorous silence. Others joined the tweezing frenzy by tweeting about their experiences, “I had already lost my childhood, my virginity and my self worth I was afraid, and I didn't want to lose any more. #BeenRapedNeverReported”(1)” Others including well known authors also tweeted to support the woman who have been victimized. “Reading the #BeenRapedNeverReported hashtag. It's hard reading. Makes me slightly ashamed to be human & much more ashamed to be male.”(1) Men also participated in making this hashtag trend by tweeting and expressing their feelings towards this terrible act against penalized women with just a few words of kindness and support. “I believe you. It's not your fault. You have options. I'm here for you. I stand with you. #BeenRapedNeverReported”(1)

It is not only important but it is ones duty to read and understand what terrible, tragic things are taking place in society. By educating and exposing oneself  to information like this one can learn the ways to stop other women from being victimized, penalized, abused, violated, dehumanized. RAPED.

Schools of Today, Dictate Schools of Tomorrow

To be honest it would be nice to think that schools would no longer exist in 2035. However, one must admit that the world would no longer be able to function without having an educated people living on it. Seeing that schools have, for the most part, stuck to their traditional ways and have kept the tradition of conducting classes in a class room environment with a teacher and surrounded by fellow classmates this will not change even in 2035.
In the future I would think schools would continue to progress as they do today, the only differences would be that books would no longer be necessary and paper and pencil will not even be mentioned in a class room nor any where. In my opinion desks and chairs will begin to levitate off the floors of classrooms before classrooms cease to exist. Some skills must be taught to children and one of those skills would be people skills and there is no better way for a child to grasp the idea of working with others properly then inside of a classroom. Children must have the luxury of being taught by a teacher who stands in front of the class and not inside of a computer. If our future depends on robots humans will slowly evolve into working, speaking, and communicating like robots, therefore the youth must not be effected and exposed to such degrees of technology at such a young age. As hard as it may be for one to believe or understand what I am expressing, I have to trust my ins-tics and say not much will change. Schools will still exist and classrooms full of teachers and students will still be part of the norm. It is more then obvious that books, paper, and pencil will no longer be needed in the near future however human interaction will always remain a necessity.
Becoming a teacher has always been something that I have taken an interest in, however I find myself arguing with my computer or anything technologically advanced. If schools in the future were to solely rely on computers, robots, and other technological equipment I doubt I would be able to teach in a situation like that. However, I do believe that I would become a teacher if the circumstances were to remain the same, I know that I would love to become a teacher. It all boils down to how well schools function today and how well schools will be required to function ‘tomorrow’.

GOOD COP BAD COP

The DEA Once Turned a 14-Year-Old into a Drug Kingpin. Welcome to the War on Drugs
By: Nick Wing
Source: Huffington Post

All children are raised thinking cops are the ‘good guys’, they protect us and they follow all the rules to enforce the law. However, what they are not being told is that the DEA pays off informants who illegally find information to sell to the DEA. The fact that the DEA is using informants illegally is not the worst part; most of these informants have sold cops false information and have lied in the stand more than once. “The "highest-paid snitch in DEA history" was also found to have lied repeatedly in testimony. Despite his reputation, he recently resumed work with the DEA.” (1)  Some of these informants have made a living off of selling the DEA, the people who are supposed to enforce and project the law, information. Some informants are granted the right to break the law and detectives simply do not log or record any of this information. “The DEA allows informants to break the law, but have no records as to how often it happens.”(1)  After finding out that the DEA lets their informants commit illegal action one would think that there are not many more lines to be crossed, however one would be mistaken, the DEA promises informants citizenship and a happy life here in the U.S., but does not deliver. The DEA continues to use and expose sources given by informants with no intention of returning the favor. “The DEA strung one informant along for 20 years with the promise of citizenship. She still hasn't received it.”(1)
This may not be world news or news that concerns the youth, who are not a part of the drug world directly, but this article shows citizens of the United States of America that our ‘justice system’ is corrupt. It goes to show that in today’s society no one is to be trusted, not even those who are supposed to be our protectors. Not all cops and DEA detectives are breaking the law, however is it still difficult to know that there are those who abuse their power and put innocent people to jail in hopes of earning a few dollars raise.

TEACH THE TEACHERS HOW TO TEACH

“A Talk to Teachers”

Subject- The subject of this speech is quite simple. It is about the way African American youth are taught in schools. It pin points the major issues in education segregation.
Occasion- The speech was given in 1963 in New York City to all school teachers, from around Ney York.
Audience- This speech was given to all school teachers from New York City. The teachers attending were teachers from top notch school and also those who teach at schools located in the ghettos.
Purpose- This speech was written with the intention to persuade and to inform school teachers. This speeches purpose was to change the way school teachers taught African American students, and to help teachers understand that being bias towards white rich children was not morally expectable. Also it was meant to persuade teachers that blacks and whites should be taught the same and be given the same opportunities.
Speaker- The speaker was a man named James Baldwin.
Tone- This speeches tone can be considered argumentative, persuasive, informative, frustrated, and resentful. He is arguing that all children should receive an equal education. He is trying to persuade teachers to change their teaching habits and to no longer be bias. He is informing people of the injustice that is taking place throughout schools. He is speaking in a frustrated and resentful tone because he is offended and angered by the fact that teachers think an African American child is not capable of withholding the same information of a white child.
Using a SOAPST to break down this literary piece is helpful because it helps the reader better understand and evaluate the authors intended message. The speech written by Baldwin was informative and used facts to help support his claims. This speech was successful in informing and persuading its intended audience.

An Ever-Changnig Curriculum

To What Extent Do Our Schools Serve the Goals of a True Education?
Suppose the word education had only one true definition: if that was the case answering this question would be incredibly easy with and yes, or no answer. However, that is clearly not the case, many things are taken into consideration when asked if schools ‘serve the goals of a true education’, and the first would be what ones definition of education is. To a student an education should be what they learn in their adolescence that they will later be required to use in their future to solve problems, get jobs, and live in today’s society. If that is what an education should be, the answer to the stated question would be no. Of course teachers and instructors teach students what is being given to them by the boards who decide what is necessary for teens and children to learn, but it is not information that will be needed in later years. A student will not need to know the area of a circle unless their future job requires them to do so, or how plants go through photosynthesis, unless of course their job requires them to do so. Obviously an overview of all these subjects must be provided but to go into detail about each of the subjects is unnecessary.
Schools should be teaching the youth how to handle taxes, or how to deal with a relentless boss, these are things that are needed to survive in society. Education is what is passed down by the knowledgeable and wise to the upcoming generation to help the next set of leaders and members of society create a better life for themselves and create a better tomorrow. An education should not be a set curriculum that is taught year after year. An education should always be changing along with society and its ever-changing tasks.

SAVE THE WORLD

Liberian Leader Warns Ebola Risks Causing A 'Lost Generation'
By:Reuters
Source:  Huffington Post

It is not new news that Ebola is a deadly disease; however it is tragic that people are almost numb to hearing the word Ebola and reacting to it with no concern. In the infancy of this disease the world was flustered and had no idea what extreme measures had to be taken to control this disease from spreading. After the disease spread to the U.S. and Spain peoples’ attention automatically reared from Africa, where the disease was first established, and began to aid only those who lived outside of Africa.  Liberian President, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf is worried that the new generation of Liberians will become a ‘lost generation’, because they receive no care when infected.
Johnson Sirleaf called the international reaction to the outbreak in Liberia "Inconsistent and lacking in clear direction or urgency."(1) She later stated in an open letter to BBC World Services that, "We all have a stake in the battle against Ebola" (1)  She believes that it is immensely important for the world to take into consideration, at the least, the poor and helpless people of Liberia, whose lives are being taken by this deadly disease.
She hopes that the world will not only help those outside of Liberia but also the infected citizens in Liberia. It is wrong to leave these people defenseless against a murderer such as Ebola, only because they are not wealthy and live in a third world country. They are also people whom we share this planet with. "It is the duty of all of us, as global citizens, to send a message that we will not leave millions of West Africans to fend for themselves against an enemy that they do not know, and against whom they have little defense."(1) The world must take down this disease together and no country or person should be left out of this fight, for health and survival.
I believe everyone should read this article because it is incredible informative of the situation in Liberia. It also shows people that they must help the people living in those unfortunate circumstances. I believe as a civilized and caring people of this world we must help and cure those in need no matter where they live.

Truks Watch While Others Fall

Kurds Face Massacre in Syrian Border Town
               as Turkey Just Watches
Source: The Huffington Post
By: Mollie Reilly, Sophia Jones
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/10/05/turkey-kurds-kobani

The Turkish military believes that the lives being lost are not worth their times to help and fight back against the oppressors, the Islamic State Forces. Kurdish fighters, small in number and short of supplies, have been fighting and protecting their land and people for twenty days. As of now 160,000 people have fled their homes and crossed the border into Turkey. The United States- led coalition airstrikes may have killed a little over 35 militants they have not been able to help the Kurdish people in the way they need to be helped. These attacks on the militants have done minimal to none for the Kobani defenders.  "We wouldn't want Kobani to fall. We welcomed our brothers who came from Kobani. We'll do whatever we can to prevent this from happening." (1) The Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu expressed the thoughts presented above; however has done nothing to show that he along with the rest of Turkey wants to help the Kobani defenders.
BBC had reported that Turkish tanks stand at the border and have yet to fire back to stop the militant attacks. While the Turks say they want to help their so called “brothers”, people have begun to find comfort in the idea that the Turkish government is not only letting the Islamic Group attack Kobani, but also supporting them. It has been assumed that Turkey refuses to take any action because they are worried about the well being of their people and nation, because they feel if they were to fight against the Islamic Group Turkey will also become a target.
It is greatly important for people to read and educate themselves about world issues like the one presented. Reading an article like the one above will help people understand how the world works and understanding that each nation has their own agenda. Some nations more than others are more interested in their agendas rather than saving the lives of innocent people. Also, reading a news article like this one will help people around the world analyze past conflicts that have taken place.

Give Hours, Gain Character

Community service is now used to “pad” college applications, and help high school students find their way into distinguished and prestigious universities. However, that may not always be true; of course there is always the possibility that today’s youth is helping their community only for their own personal gain. Universities are aware of the reasoning behind these students’ actions; they are well-known schools and cannot be fooled by these students. The reason community service is so important is because while these kids are volunteering to help themselves get into colleges they learn to deal with responsibility, and while they may not realize it at the time they are forming character.

“One implication of the study, which has yet to be proven, is that when civic engagement and volunteerism are used to achieve a short-term goal, the long-term effect of that activity may decline” (Chaptman, 157). This quote introduces the idea that students only volunteer for school hours and gain nothing from doing so, however as it was stated before students will learn many important duties from volunteering. The qualities they will gain from completing civic duties will become qualities that will stay with the students for many years to come. Therefore, community service should be a requirement, because while students may start doing these hours for padding for university applications they will learn that helping their communities is not only for their communities but for themselves as well. Using application padding as an excuse is pointless because colleges and universities know why the students complete the required hours, and they also know that after completing the hours the youth would have gained a sense of responsibility and would have built glowing character.

Lenin Has Fallen

Watch Protesters Tear Down A Massive Lenin Statue In Ukraine

By: Nick Robins-Early
Source: Huffington Post
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/nick-robinsearly/

The people of Ukraine have finally brought down the statue of Lenin after so many years of fighting and striving to end the reign of this ruler even after his death. For years on end the people have fought with one another, some trying to protect the statue and others refusing to let it stand. “Statues of Lenin, once abundant in Ukraine and a reminder of its past as part of the Soviet Union, have been a common target ever since the start of the revolution that ousted the nation's Russian-leaning leader earlier this year.” (1)  With the fall of the largest statue of Vladimir Lenin the people’s actions of Eastern Ukraine took over social media on Sunday. Although many of the Ukrainian people were fighting and battling to take down this massive statue some were fighting with the hopes of keeping the statue of the once great leader standing. Creating a blockade pro- Russian people tried to their full potential to keep Vladimir Lenin standing tall and proud. Protestors who were trying to topple down Lenin’s statue are being threatened with going to jail, but at this point and stage of their rebellion, statements and threats like those neither interest nor frighten them, they are ready to fight and take down any forces who are willing to try to overcome them.

It is important for others to read this because it is important and relevant for people from around the world to understand the troubles around the world. It is clear that people are taking a stand for what they truly believe is right and fair and are taking actions in hopes of reaching their goals. It is the people’s job around the world to help them reach their goals. Reading articles like the one above will help spark the will to fight in many others and will inform the people around the world of what is taking place across the globe.

it's not that easy

‘Why Didn't You Just Leave?’

By: Melissa Jeltsen
Source: Huffington Post

“Abuse usually isn’t consistent or constant. In between, you become a normal couple.”(1) “When I got upset about my bruises, he said I looked sexy all beat up. I was defeated.” (1) “I realized I could have died in that apartment and no one would have known.”(1) “I thought I could make him so much more in love with me that it would click — he wouldn’t want to hurt me.” (1) “He warned me that if I left him, he would hunt me down. He was going to shoot me. He was going to paralyze me. He was going to throw acid on my face.”(1) “The mortgage was $2,500 a month. My son’s day care was $1,200 a month. Plus groceries. Car payment. Credit card bills... I was terrified.”(1)
Six quotes, six stories, millions more unheard and untold. Who was actually going to listen they think, who would care they would say. Domestic violence is not an issue that can be ignored; it is not a problem that will go away on its own. It is visible in all cultures and miraculously accepted in some. After the story about Ray Rice surfaced hundreds of survivors spoke out in hopes to help people understand why a woman would stay in an abusive relationship. In most situations children are involved and the mother cannot leave because she knows the father will come after her and take away the children and possibly harm them as well. However others have no one to go to because their husbands have taken everyone away from them and isolated the woman, others have no financial support to lean back on after leaving. Sadly some have fallen into the illusion that their husband still loves them and never meant to harm them, and others are terrified to leave because they have been threatened.
People must read news reports like this because people must understand that domestic violence is a serious issue that must be dealt with, and woman need to come to the realization that they must seek help and become the free and worthy women they have the right to be.

the good stuff

In definition ice cream means, a frozen food containing cream or milk and butterfat, sugar, flavoring, and sometimes eggs. However, I like my definition much better, I like to describe ice cream as a wonderful treat that only a select few now how to enjoy correctly, it is the heeler of all pains, and the greatest creation of mankind. In my opinion the world would come tumbling down without it. Ice cream is comfort food, ice cream is happy food and sad food, ice cream is breakfast, dinner, and lunch.
I am not one to discriminate I am willing to indulge in any flavor of ice cream. However my favorite has to be the vanilla ice cream that they serve at one of my favorite restaurants, Casa Bianca. I know what you may think, vanilla is so plain and boring everyone says. I would beg to differ this is not just any vanilla ice cream it is homemade, it is creamy, it is rich, and it is the best flavor and ice cream on this planet. Obviously many would argue that there is no way vanilla ice cream can be this fantastically incredible, but I urge everyone to try then judge. A single bowl of this is hardly enough. Now I understand just saying it is great is not enough but this is all I have to offer now, it truly saddens me to know there are people who have not had the opportunity to try this very special ice cream. Weather someone’s favorite is vanilla or chocolate or anything in between ice is fabulous and phenomenal.
i scream you scream we all scream for ice cream

QUEEN BEY

Beyoncé Sneezes on MTV and MTV Gets Sicker
By: Rob Sheffield| August 25, 2014
Source: rolling stones

It is obvious that reading about Beyoncé can never be a drag to someone who is a proud member of the Beyhive (her fans). In the review the Rolling Stones has done for her legendary performance at the MTV VMA’s, made it clear that her performance was absolute perfection. In this review they have used the claim of value, to establish that they think her performance was amazing. While this credible source has said Beyoncé’s performance was the highlight of the night, one may argue and establish their own claim that there was, in fact, a performer who outshined Beyoncé that night. Ethos was already established because the Rolling Stones is known to be a credible source and the writer of this review established Beyoncé’s ethos by presenting the reader of her past accomplishments to prove to the reader that she is truly a talent. Logical evidence was not used in this review, as the reader can see the writer was all for Queen Bey and her performance, however the author of this piece had a large pool of examples as to why this iconic performance was absolutely wonderful and can be a topic of conversation. Pathos may have been found when the author mentioned the singer’s daughter and the words she had said to express her feelings toward her mother. Blue Ivy said, “Good job, mommy” (1), and to some of the readers those words could connect at an emotional level. As one can see some reviews are positive and some negative, however all reviews must use certain techniques to appeal to an audience.

IRAN IS A GREATER THREAT?

Henry Kissinger: Iran 'A Bigger Problem Than ISIS'

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/

Is it possible that there is a more serious matter then taking down ISIS, according to ex-Secretary of State, Henry Kissinger, Iran can cause a much more serious issue? Kissinger is convinced that since the boarders of the settlement are collapsing Iran will be a great power to be reckoned with. He says is in agreement with the rest of the world that the ISIS are a powerful force as well, but not nearly as powerful as Iran is. Iran has the recourses and the allies to take over most all of the Middle East, while ISIS is a long ways away from being able to take over Middle Eastern counties. Kissinger says, “The borders of the settlement of 1919-'20 are essentially collapsing. That gives Iran a very powerful level from a strategic point of view. I consider Iran a bigger problem than ISIS. ISIS is a group of adventurers with a very aggressive ideology. But they have to conquer more and more territory before they can became a strategic, permanent reality. I think a conflict with ISIS — important as it is — is more manageable than a confrontation with Iran.”(1) It does not come as a surprise that Kissinger believes Iran will cause issues, because he was a firm believer that Iran had a nuclear program when in reality they were not a threat.
Weather Kissinger’s view on this topic is true or untrue it is important for people to understand that there are many different things happening in the world and that at no point is the entire world at peace. This news report informs the people that there is more than one issue at hand but all issues will be handled in due course.

AMBER ALERT

Amber Alert: 6-Week-Old Delano Wilson Kidnapped At Gunpoint

Source: Huffington Post

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/

They say there is no love like the one a mother has for her child. Whether that is true or not to have ones child pried from their arms is terrifying, cruel and absolutely despicable. Recently a young mother and loving father had their six month old son taken from them. A white male and Latino female took away their child named Delano, they held his father at gunpoint and took this helpless child from him. The police have not yet found any leads to help them find this infant. His mother, Taniasha Perkins, wants nothing more than to have her child in her arms again. Taniasha says, "He's just one month old. I love my child. I just gave birth to him. He is my one and only son, my first born."(1)  Police say that Delano is in great danger and can be harmed by these kidnapers.
This article may not be world news but tragedies like this take place all around the world. No mother or father should feel the pain of losing their child or having them taken away from them. Taniasha and her boyfriend Willie Wilson, say they have both found jobs to provide for their one and only son. They say he is all they have he is their motivation. The two unidentified kidnappers are tearing this family apart; they have taken away the hope and glue of this family. Readers have been given contact information, they are being asked to report any information they may have on the kidnapping of little Delano.

The Love of a Queen

SOAPST is used to help the reader better understand the content of the literature, why it has been written, and to help the audience understand if the literary piece was effective in connecting to its intended audience. Queen Elizabeth’s speech was effective; it helped encourage her soldiers and reassured her people.
Subject- The subject of this speech was the Queen of England speaking to her people and informing of them of the position they are in and how she will work to give them the freedom and land they deserve.
Occasion- This speech was given on a day of battle in 1588, when the Spanish Armada was preparing to take England, however Queen Elizabeth was not willing to give her country to the Spanish.
Audience- The Virgin Queen’s speech was intended to her people, and her faithful soldiers. Women Kill Too

“British Woman Vows To Become First Female Jihadist To Kill American Or British Captive”
Source: The Huffington Post
The Islamic extremist groups are beginning to become more and more dangerous. Recently a journalist by the name of James Foley was beheaded by an extremist group. Now there is a woman called Khadijah Dare who wants to copy this execution and become the first female Jihadist to kill an American or British captive. This woman was born in London, England and married to Abu Bark, who is an Islamic State fighter. The two and their son, now live in Syria in the same community as other extremist. She posted on twitter, “Any links 4 da execution of da journalist plz. Allahu Akbar. UK must b shaking up ha ha. I wna b da 1st UK woman 2 kill a UK or US terorrist!(sic)”. (page 1) Dare converted to Islam when she was a teenager and was known to be a regular at the Lewisham Islamic Center in London. This is the same mosque that Woolwick murderers Michael Adebolajo and Michael Adebowale were seen attending before arrested. The mosque is trying to make it clear to people around the world that they are not the ones encouraging these Muslim extremist to commit these terrorist acts. The people of the center do not want to be held accountable for the poor decisions these men and women make.
Reading this article will not only inform the people that the extremist militant groups are getting bigger in number, they are becoming more dangerous and terrible. In addition to that knowledge the Muslim church leaders should not be held accountable for all the crimes these disturbed people commit. Yes, it is possible some are encouraging these terrorist acts, however people should grasp the idea that grouping a people is not acceptable and each individual should be held responsible for their actions.

ARMY STONG

Ethos, pathos, and logos are used in almost every add, they are used to connect to the viewers and its audience. These three are seen everyday all around, people do not realize they are being affected by them, because the makers of these adds know how to manipulate people’s feelings, emotions and thoughts. In this add all three are being used. The makers of this add have established ethos by placing the U.S army symbol on the right corner of the add. Using ethos they have grabbed the audience’s attention and reassured the viewers of their credibility. This add connects to its audience mostly by pathos. The picture they have used makes people feel happy, safe, and helps them realize how much these men and women sacrifice for their families and country. They have also used quotes to emphasize the importance of people in the army and to make people think joining the army will help instill a sense of pride in themselves. Logos is also being used. They have added a website name so that its viewers have the opportunity to learn more, and backup the information they have been given. They have added the fact that joining the army can help with college to grab the attention of those who are willing to do anything to receive an education.
Seeing that this add is directed towards young adults and parents of the younger generation, this add is effective. It connects to its audience emotionally; it provides information and creates incentive for people to join the army. There is no strong like army strong.

That was Then, This is Now

I cannot say I am one of those people who can read for hours on end and frankly that does not bother me, but That was Then, This is Now is one of those books that grabs you and does not let go until you have read every last page. That was Then, This is Now is a short book which was appealing to me, but in those 159 pages the author managed to give life to the characters and make you feel every emotion each of them felt. While reading this book I felt obligated to cry, laugh, smile and love with the characters, there are only a few books that have made me feel this way. That was Then, This is Now was not written intending to teach people a lesson, or to tell us that drugs and lying is wrong, it was written so we could relate to the characters and their problems and to make us feel like it is okay to make mistakes and it is okay for there to be change. This book is about growing and finding yourself. I loved reading this book because the author was not trying to change you with what she wrote; she wrote it because she had a simple story to share. Most books that I have had to read was like any other it started with a single character, then they faced a problem and finally they fixed the problem. S.E. Hintos’s book was not like that. The book starts with two young boys who have been friends for as long as they could remember, but they were not faced with a single problem, they were facing life and all of its realities. However, she did not end the book with a happy ending she ended it with a realistic one, one that made you think after you put down the book. This book is my favorite because to me it was not just a book it was someone giving me their outlook on what growing up is really about.
